EUKEP

People

EUKEP consists out of a small core staff, a network of senior associated consultants and an R&D Council.

These EUKEP consultants all have a combined background in two or more of the following areas: Enterprise R&D and strategy, Research Institutions & Governmental Policy. All of our consultants are of senior level and share a passion for regional economic development and sustainability.

EUKEP has an R&D Council to combine regional Think-tank results and develop new tools, methods and opportunities for Europe to pursue. The R&D Council welcomes students to do research and invites pensionates and enthusiasts to share their knowledge to these youngsters.

EUKEP has a flexible organisation of a small core team surrounded with many experienced associated senior consultants. This ensures a small overhead while keeping high quality and tailor services intact.

The core consists out of the following people:

Henk de Vries (Chairman) ''Prepare Europe for next generations''

Henk de Vries is employed at NXP (former Philips Semiconductors) as Director Energy Systems. Using his engineering skills in speech technology, the Compact Disc and other innovations, Henk brought a career up to the Strategic headquarters of the Philips Divisions. He pioneered inter-firm cooperation in EEC-projects and thanks to his academic background in Marketing he created strong networks for the development of a prosperous European Knowledge Economy.

Carel Rutteman (Secretary) “Nothing can stop a good idea”

Carel worked at Getronics when he found himself to his own surprise at the start of a revolution called Internet in the early nineties. He got the responsibility within this company, who lead the market in the Netherlands, to deploy the infrastructure of this new medium. Soon he discovered that the future of IT would be in services rather than products, so he changed his focus to innovation of services and outsourcing. “When we are young, we try to realise our ideas without thinking about it, but we miss experience on how to do it. When we grow older, we become sceptical and sometimes don’t even try. In fact, if you’re committed, nothing can stop a good idea”.

Harry Arkesteijn (Finance) “Coming to action by joining people”.

Harry Arkesteijn has over 25 years of experience in talent development, business development and strategy in the banking sector. He was responsible for start-up of the Rabobank Academy. He acquired special knowledge and experience in scenario writing and has also been active in business development as manager and senior consultant in the Strategy Department of the Rabobank Group.
Harry has a remarkable background in Philosophy, Theology and a master degree in Economics. For instance, he was involved as moderator and process facilitator for the Dutch Province of Noord-Brabant when they wanted to spur bio-energy development in their region. His motto is “coming to action and business by joining people”.

Job ten Bosch (Manager Impact Initiatives) “Making connections work”

As an Engineer in Technical Management Job ten Bosch was involved in the introduction of bioethanol in the Netherlands and other clean vehicle technology. Bringing parties together around sound business cases was key. During his second study in Innovation Management he was editor-in-chief of RSM Interface Magazine for which he wrote with leading business professors and interviewed distinguished people such as Ruud Lubbers and John P. Kotter. “I am passionate about the innovation of business itself. How we organize ourselves may very well be the key to getting a technology or business to succeed.”

Bernard Verlaan (Chairman R&D Council) “Storms of knowledge”

Fountains of knowledge are purposefully created by Benard Verlaan on any topic thinkable. Bernards unique combination of knowledge of both IT and Databases gives him the ability to access and harnest enormous amounts of information. People 2

Most EUKEP members have a combined background in two or more of the following areas: Enterprise R&D and strategy, Research Institutes, Governmental Knowledge Economy Programs and Politics. EUKEP has senior members as well as highly talented students. They share a passion in both maximising the economic impact of Europe’s rich cultural background and contributing to a sustainable environment.

Although the founders met each other in the Knowledge Economy Platform of the Dutch social liberal party D66, EUKEP is an independent organisation. A short CV of the key members can be found below.

Henk de Vries (chairman)

Henk de Vries is employed at NXP (former Philips Semiconductors) as Director Energy Systems. In his career he had several management positions in Research & Innovation. He worked in the area of speech recognition, the development of the CD and he has been responsible for strategy development. Henk de Vries ''Prepare Europe for next generations'' Using engineering skills in speech technology, the Compact Disc and other innovations brought a career up to, and in, the headquarters of the Philips Divisions. It needs a very ''driven'' chairman of EEC-committees to make multinational firms co-operate in European projects: for their best interest, Europe's interest and the interest of next generations. Henk realized this on behalf of, and with support of Europe's top-companies and e.g. the web-site www.careerspace.com is one of today's visible results. Being a Strategist and Excellence program co-ordinator for a profit driven business, in a mix with his family, brought a very results driven ''virus'' in his body and a strong determination to prepare Europe for the new generations with all available methods and experience. An academic background in Marketing has helped to build strong networks in and for the Knowledge Economy of Europe. A great team of experts in many areas of the Knowledge economy helped to fulfil the role as Chairman in the former Dutch version of the now called European Knowledge Economy Platform [EUKEP]. Also today this role invites future driven Europeans who are keen to join.
